The distinct silhouette at the back keeps the fabric away from the head, creating a gap that allows for a super-size-fit. When viewed from the side, it presents a linear, architectural silhouette. The size can be adjusted with the elastic tape on the inside so it doesn't feel tight at all, and once you put it on you'll be hooked on the stress-free fit. This is a fun item because of the contrast between the iconic back view and the simple silhouette when viewed from the front. Of course, it does provide excellent sun protection as intended, and best of all, the back half of the head is not tight, allowing air to pass through and keeping you cool, making it a new design that anyone can wear. We had a nylon mesh fabric from the archives of a long-established Kyoto Russell fabric manufacturer dyed in an original color. It has a strange, crisp texture and the unique unevenness of Russell. We had it finished to a hardness that matches the design of the hat, and by omitting the adhesive interlining, we were able to take advantage of the quality of the material, resulting in a finish that becomes more appealing the more you use it.
